Summary of  Recent Past Conferences

  • Summer 2017:   Friday, June 16, 2017 – “Family Matters”: With today’s typical family becoming more diverse sociologically and geographically, traditional family gatherings introduce new issues and take on new significance.  At the 2017 Tampa Bay Great Books Council’s Drama Retreat, we’ll examine family interactions and confrontations through the recent Tony Award-winning play “The Humans,” by Steven Karam, and the classic “Three Sisters,” by Anton Chekhov. The Drama Retreat was held on Friday, June 16th, at Compton Park Community Clubhouse in New Tampa.  Click here for a summary.
  • Winter 2017:   Saturday Jan 28, 2017 – “It’s a Mad, Mad World”: Discussions texts include “Catch-22,” “King Lear,” and Madness and Civilization: A History of Insanity in the Age of Reason.”   Click here for a summary.
