Fall 2017 Conversation Conference Theme Announced: “Race Matters: From Baldwin to Coates”

The Tampa Bay Great Books Council is pleased to invite you to join in its eighth annual Fall Conversation Conference, to be held on Friday, September 15th, 2017, from 10 AM to 3:30 PM, at the Tampa Palms Golf and Country Club.

In line with our tradition of selecting controversial and thought-provoking readings with contemporary relevance, we will be studying two classic books on race and racism in the American experience: The Fire Next Time by James Baldwin and Between the World and Me by Ta-Nehisi Coates.

Written more than fifty years apart, these two studies of race in America provide an opportunity for the Tampa Bay community to engage in a timely and necessary conversation.

The Fire Next Time will be the topic for the morning breakout discussion groups, following coffee and a brief introduction.

Attendees will be provided with a complimentary buffet luncheon before breakout sessions begin on Ta-Nehisi Coates’ National Book Award finalist, Between the World and Me.

Following the two-hour afternoon breakout, conferees will re-convene for a 30-minute summary session before adjourning.

Registration is limited to 30 participants.  The registration fee of $35 covers both books and the buffet luncheon.

To register, click here GB FALL CONVERSATION 2017 to open the application, print, complete and mail with your check for $35, payable to the “Tampa Bay Great Books Council,” to: Patrick DeMarco, 9707 Sunnyoak Drive, Riverview, FL 33569.
