MADNESS TORMENTS St. Petersburg in January 2017
The nature and manifestations of “madness” will infect the minds of scores of Great Books enthusiasts when the Tampa Bay Great Books Council hosts its 12th Annual Conference at the Hilton St. Petersburg/Bayfront Hotel on January 28-29, 2017!
Under the Conference title, “It’s a Mad, Mad World!” attendees will discuss William Shakespeare’s “King Lear,” Joseph Heller’s “Catch-22,” and Michel Foucault’s essay, “Madness and Civilization.” All texts will be provided at no charge upon payment of the $189 registration fee.

Discussion sessions will begin Saturday morning, January 28th, and continue through Sunday midday, January 29th, at the luxurious Hilton St. Petersburg/Bayfront Hotel (333 First Street South), and the hotel is offering a special room rate discount to Conference attendees ($147 for single rooms and $160 for doubles); rates this low are almost impossible to find at the height of the Winter tourist season, and you must call the hotel directly ((727)-894-5000) and identify yourself as a Conference attendee to qualify for the discount. The rate may be applied to Friday and/or Saturday evening accommodations.
Be prepared to “go crazy” as our team of certified Great Books moderators utilizes the precepts of “Shared Inquiry” to guide our interpretation of these challenging works. And, of course there will be plenty of opportunity for not only intellectual stimulation, but cultural enrichment and hearty socialization as well!
