Sarasota Great Books Group
Since March of 2020 the Sarasota Great Books group has been meeting via Zoom. We meet every Friday from 10:30 to 12:30.
We read and discuss mainly short stories but also essays and poems, one or more different works each week by the same author, and we read that author for several weeks. Currently we’ve switched from our months of European authors such as Balzac, Camus, and Sartre, to American authors. We started with Hawthorne and then covered works by Emerson, Poe, and Thoreau. Now (June of 2021) we’re reading Melville’s short stories. There are different works each week. We usually have about fifteen people online, with a short lecture about the author followed by a lively discussion. There is no charge.
We welcome new members! Please click here to contact Tom Walker by email.
Classes are now on Zoom. The prior location was: The Historical Society of Sarasota County’s Crocker Memorial Church, at Pioneer Park, 1260 12th Street, Sarasota, FL 34236
