Morning Discussion (10:00 AM): Tampa Bay Great Books co-founder Patrick DeMarco will set the stage by moderating a discussion of our nonfiction selection, “Caste: The Origins of Our Discontents” by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Isabel Wilkerson ($14.79 at 

A New York Times review described “Caste” as “an instant American classic and almost certainly the keynote nonfiction book of the American century so far.”  Reviewers as varied as NPR, Fortune, The New York Post, Town & Country, and O: The Oprah Magazine ranked it among their annual Best Books selections. 

Afternoon Discussion (1:00 PM):  We’ll examine the PEN/Hemingway Award-winning novel, “We Need New Names,” by NoViolet Bulawayo (paperback $10.35 at Amazon). 

Bulawayo’s writing has been described as “unflinching and powerful” as she chronicles a young girl’s journey from the shantytowns of Paradise, Zimbabwe, to Detroit, in “brilliant language, alive and confident.”  Great Books moderator Linda Feeney will lead the discussion.
